Back to Greg's new job... Yippee, congratulations, let's throw a party to celebrate! The details: it's with the same company, it's a huge promotion, and just an amazing level for him to be at right now. From the official company email:

"... pleased to announce the promotion of Greg to Director of EMR/HIM Product Management. In this role Greg will be responsible for all aspects of developing the EMR/HIM Division, including product development, marketing strategy and execution of the business plan for the products in order to meet the projected sales targets and deliverables."

EMR=Electronic Medical Records, HIM=Healthcare Information Management

*more celebrating*

Which brings me to a rumor floating around. This new position does mean we have to move. The company's main office is in the DC/Maryland area and with his old position at this company, Greg was working from home, traveling to the sites, and also spending about a week a month at the main office. The new one? Yeah he needs to be in the office every day with the occasional traveling to sites and trade shows. So we're moving!

But not right away. Greg asked to commute for awhile but we will be moved out there by 2006 (a Christmas break move is entirely possible). If you haven't priced the housing market lately, well... Our 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath on a 1/3 acre in a nice neighborhood near a decent large city is about $150,000-$200,000 in the Midwest. A 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath on 1/10 acre is at least a half a million dollar home out there. Ouch... But don't worry, the pay raise and incentives will match the differences in cost so we won't be living in a cardboard box in an alley. And it's very nice that we have the time and aren't rushed to sell our house and move right away.

As to how I feel about it? I'm excited. I've been ready for a change of location for over a year and while it sucks that we'll be farther away from family and friends, we'll be in a really cool location. I'm looking forwards to trips into DC and the ocean/Chesapeake Bay being less than an hours drive. (I've been to DC twice, Maryland once.) I think it'll be an awesome experience for the kids. While I'm a bit sad that they won't be the "small town/farm kids" like I was growing up, it would be crazy to pass this opportunity up.

But back to the main topic, way to go Greg, I'm proud of you!
