Our power was out yesterday from 4:30 to 11:30pm due to the sleet/freezing rain (we received over an inch) knocking down trees and power lines. Kinda ruined the nice romantic Valentine's Day dinner I had planned to cook. At least we ate our cold food over candlelight, right?

To further put things into perspective, I realized that as the electricity came back on that there were many spouses sitting at home alone on Valentine's Day because their significant others were out in the bitter cold working to restore our power. So thank you very much electricians and road crews (and their spouses), I appreciate you!

Oh and school was canceled today. I love my kids, I love my kids, I love my...

I should stop right there but I'd like to say at little something about Valentine's Day. I know some people hate it as a Hallmark/flower industry holiday and think that we shouldn't need a special day to celebrate the ones we love. In that theory we shouldn't need Thanksgiving to be thankful or the 4th of July to celebrate the USA or even Easter and Christmas to celebrate Jesus. Holidays are holidays for a reason: to give us a little break from the norm and think about aspects of life that sometimes get overlooked in boring daily routines. I say enjoy the holidays you like, ignore the rest, and don't feel guilty about your decision.

Personally I like to receive flowers and chocolates and random little gifty things on Valentine's Day. (Greg did well this year, actually I think he may have gone a little bit overboard but don't tell him I said that.) Same goes for Mother's Day. But I don't expect gifts for my birthday or Christmas from Greg. For my birthday I like to not have to cook. We went out to eat last year and it was fabulous. For Christmas, it's so insane with all the other gift giving and receiving that I really don't want to add to the stress by expecting something from Greg (or me having to buy for him). So we both pick out something nice for ourselves that we wouldn't normally buy and purchase it. This is what works for us. At least I think it works for us. Greg?

Totally off topic but why does Kyle think that coughing is the way to prove he's starving? He's not, he just ate lunch an hour ago. (I think he's bored.) I swear the kids are determined to eat an entire week's worth of groceries in one day.
