This has been bugging me for awhile... Now that I own my own business*, do I have to give up my stay at home mom title?

I've avoided discussing the Mommy Wars the entire 3 1/2 years I've been blogging. Which has to be a record of some sort. My reasoning is that mommies shouldn't fight, the government and kids do enough of that already. In short, my feelings on the subject are "do what's best for your family and ignore what the world thinks about it." But I know people like labels. And duh, "Ramblings of a SAHM", I'm obviously right in there with the labels.

No offense to the WAHM's (work at home moms), but I really, really hate that term. Have you met a mom who doesn't "work" at home? I figure if someone can get paid to do the job (maid, chef, nanny, secretary), even though you're doing it for free, it's still work. Case in point, "volunteer work." No pay and it's called work. I also think being a housewife is a perfectly legit job too, households don't run themselves.

So no "Ramblings of a WAHM" for me.

Entrepreneur? Too manly and "pie in the sky" dreaming. Small business owner? I'm so small, there's only 5'3" of it (oh and a sewing machine). Designer? Seamstress? Crazy woman with 5 children, a husband, and an annoying habit of biting off more than she can chew? Fitting but a little long maybe.

I think the thing that is bothering me the most is that I don't want to give up the Stay at Home Mom title. I really like it, I always have (again with the duh, it's my blog name). But I kinda feel that with starting a business I'm cheating. I don't want it to look like being "just" a stay at home mom wasn't enough for me anymore. It is enough! I've honestly never wanted to work outside the home ever again, even when all the kids are in school, college, out of the house, (probably wishful thinking on those last two, hehe). I'm not even sure where the particular moment of insanity to start Blue Kitty Designs came from. I think it was Greg and his love of sales and marketing. (Me: "Look what I made for myself!" Greg: "Cool, you should sell those.") I think I should hire him, except I'm not really profitable yet and he gets paid way too much at his current job anyways.

So here I am, kinda a business person, kinda a stay at home mom. I don't know what my title should be. It gives me something to ponder while I sew...

* I have all the tax ids and licenses and a business checking account, so to me it's officially no longer a hobby and it's a "business". Which is rather amusing because I'm the most un-business/sales/marketing type person I know. Seriously, it's just luck that I've made any sales at all because I couldn't sell a cup of hot chocolate on a freezing winter day.
