How Saturday's schedule was suppose to go:

7:30am Hockey game
9am Kyle's soccer clinic
11:20am Em & Ally's soccer game

How Saturday's schedule actually went:

7:30am Hockey game
2 hours in the hospital's pediatric emergency room
11:20am Em & Ally's soccer game

It was the 3rd period and Zach's team was losing 10-0. He was playing defense and took his position in front of our goalie. As usual with ice hockey, there's a lot of bumps and falling down and he was hit head on by one of the opposing team members really hard. He fell back on the ice. And didn't get up. And didn't move. For at least 20 seconds.

I think they actually don't like the parents going out on the ice but when your child doesn't move after a hit and fall like that, I don't care what they prefer. I was scooting across the ice as he came to with the coach and one of the parents (who is a doctor) over him. Zach was able to get up on his own and get off the ice.

So off to the emergency room we (all 6 of us) went. Another mom actually forced her GPS unit on me because I wasn't sure where I was going (hey, they usually have those blue H signs, right?). We were put into a room really quickly and Zach was feeling very tired with a heavy head. The doctor ordered a CT scan which is now known as the giant blue doughnut that took pictures of Zach's brain. Diagnosis: concussion.

He's fine today. I'm sort of better. I'm one of those people who does really well in an emergency, doing what needs to be done while keeping a calm composure. And then I fall apart hours later when the emergency is over. Greg did his best from the distance, I texted him at a stoplight on the drive to the hospital and then Greg talked to Zach while I gave the admin our insurance information. And as much as I feared 5 kids in an emergency room, it wasn't too bad. It was lucky to have happened on a day when I had planned ahead so I had a bag full of crayons, paper, gameboys, snacks, and drinks.

Today's schedule: absolutely nothing. Rest and no sports is on order for Zach so we're all taking it easy. Now if only I could get the image of my baby boy motionless on the ice out of my head.
