Okay quick.* Say you were interviewed by an Associated Press writer for an article about moms creating their children's Halloween costumes and then a photographer needs to take a picture of the mom creating the children's Halloween costumes, what do you wear?

Course I haven't begun working on this year's Halloween costumes...

* 4pm today!

Can I become an every other day blogger? Is there a form I need to fill out and submit for approval? In triplicate?

The Etsy shop is back up (since Tuesday night actually). And dang, I had to ship out four orders this morning. The best part of the break seemed to be the lack of paperwork and post office trips. How big do I have to be to build a mail room and hire a secretary?

Good thing The Office season starts tonight, I've been missing the fix.

Now back to the expense and inventory spreadsheets...

Jim and Pam! Jim and Pam!

If there was a way to skip the minutes between 7:30 and 8:15am, I'd pay big money to do so. The problem has been escalating over the last few weeks and today's been the worst so far. The kids were whiny, fighting, crying, arguing, complaining, and unable to follow simple directions ("brush you hair" "eat breakfast"). If I didn't have a Girl Scout meeting tonight (which is no longer after school and now 7-8pm), I'd totally send the whole lot of them to bed at 6pm. Seriously are they trying to give me a brain aneurysm before I've had my morning tea?

In blog clean up news, yes I bought a laptop for my birthday. I picked it out weeks ago (HP Compaq V6500 with dvd writer, running Windows Vista Business, comment if you really want more specs) and it arrived Friday. I've had almost no time to play with so I've barely transferred over any files and I'm on my old desktop right now. But I have a laptop, welcome to the 21st century! Although technically I had a laptop back in college (1995). But it was more like a portable word processor with solitaire.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! It was actually a really good day in the whole scheme of things. I almost lost my voice talking to all my far off friends and family (The Phone: not such a scary device after all) and received flowers from both Greg and my parents and lots of nice cards with gift cards and money (nice money!).

Course I forgot to mention yesterday the odd part of my actual birth date. Sept 25th means there are only 3 months until Christmas. *panics*

Being 20-10 doesn't feel much different than 29...

Be back later with a picture of my birthday gift. (Hint: begins with a L and ends with a P) Kelly and I are off to Starbucks for breakfast and then to Target. And maybe a yarn store.

Have a nice Tuesday!

I'm still here. Just dealing with life. Not as well as I'd like to be but I'm hanging in there.

My birthday is always hard for me, I don't know why. This one is particularly weird because it's the dreaded 3-0 and Greg's out of town and due to Sept 25th being in the middle of the week and we're out in Maryland, I'll be spending it alone with the kids. And I'm cruddy at making new friends so I don't even have anyone locally to invite over. Seriously need to work on the "real life" friend thing, no offense to you all but it's hard to go out and share coffee and cake with the internet. I'm just over thinking this whole birthday thing and kicking myself for not being a more outgoing "let's be best friends forever!" type person. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine on Sept 26th.

So... Still here. Everyone is alive and kicking. Sewing a lot. Trying to keep everyone running in the right direction and the house from falling down. Typical normal stuff, I suppose. I just wish someone would hurry up and invent a teleportation device already. Then I'd invite all you all over (Maryland is a "southern" state, right? lol) and we'd have a huge 1st anniversary of my 29th birthday party. And life would be good. Except for the hangover and cleaning up parts the next day.

Quote of the Day: "I live in my own little world but that's okay, they know me here." -Author Unknown

I've been feeling terribly unwitty here lately. Like all I say is "I'm busy! Look, cute kids!"

But comments... I think like I've left some decent comments around the blogosphere lately. Here's a little sample:

"Happy birthday Kim and Germ! Ew, I've seen that Wal-Mart thing before. So I wear Target flip-flops. (Actually I don't. I own a pair but I can't walk in them because I'm a dork.)"

"Just back from soccer… We have like a zillion soccer balls but right before a practice they all disappear. Someone really enjoys messing with my poor feeble mind."

"Ai yi yi!"

"Well, he is when you dress him like that. Quick, get some footy pajamas stat!"

"Somedays I don't wanna be the adult. Can I be one of the kids again?"

"With carmel dip! Gotta have the sticky sugar goodness to counteract anything healthy in the apples."

"I already don't like her. She's always yelling at me when I don't go the way she wants. But if the silly thing will save me random calls from Greg to pull up Google maps on my computer because he's lost in New Jersey again, it'll be worth it."

"Maybe high school would be more tolerable if they had paid me to be there. Good luck!"

"That's a long day!"

Okay so the last comment is pretty boring. It's been a long day. (Yeah, it's 8:40am and it's already been a long day.)

I don't even know why I'm staring at this Blogger post screen. (The white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland has nothing on me.)
  • Zach was sick all night (stomach flu, I think)
  • Therefore no sleep for me
  • A hundred and two errands to run today (I'm dragging Zach along, he's no longer puking and I promise to spray Lysol around him everywhere)
  • At least the laundry is caught up
  • No groceries in the house
  • 4 Girl Scout parents to contact and track down
  • One Cub Scout den meeting to plan (for Thursday, plenty of time)
  • A hundred and three sewing projects to do
Somehow even bullet points don't seem to make my life seem any neater.

Proving someone in North Carolina has a sense of humor (and a sweet tooth):

Zach's doing much better, thanks for all your comments and phone calls over the weekend. I know he's fine now because he's trying to milk this "injury" for get well presents. *rolls eyes*

This week looks much calmer than last which is exactly what I need after this eventful weekend. The trick is to ignore next week's schedule which involves hockey, soccer, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, golf lessons (Kyle), and an orthodontist appointment (twins) all while Greg is out of town again for the MBA program. Oh and that annoying insignificant birthday that is 8 days away...

Have a lovely Monday!

How Saturday's schedule was suppose to go:

7:30am Hockey game
9am Kyle's soccer clinic
11:20am Em & Ally's soccer game

How Saturday's schedule actually went:

7:30am Hockey game
2 hours in the hospital's pediatric emergency room
11:20am Em & Ally's soccer game

It was the 3rd period and Zach's team was losing 10-0. He was playing defense and took his position in front of our goalie. As usual with ice hockey, there's a lot of bumps and falling down and he was hit head on by one of the opposing team members really hard. He fell back on the ice. And didn't get up. And didn't move. For at least 20 seconds.

I think they actually don't like the parents going out on the ice but when your child doesn't move after a hit and fall like that, I don't care what they prefer. I was scooting across the ice as he came to with the coach and one of the parents (who is a doctor) over him. Zach was able to get up on his own and get off the ice.

So off to the emergency room we (all 6 of us) went. Another mom actually forced her GPS unit on me because I wasn't sure where I was going (hey, they usually have those blue H signs, right?). We were put into a room really quickly and Zach was feeling very tired with a heavy head. The doctor ordered a CT scan which is now known as the giant blue doughnut that took pictures of Zach's brain. Diagnosis: concussion.

He's fine today. I'm sort of better. I'm one of those people who does really well in an emergency, doing what needs to be done while keeping a calm composure. And then I fall apart hours later when the emergency is over. Greg did his best from the distance, I texted him at a stoplight on the drive to the hospital and then Greg talked to Zach while I gave the admin our insurance information. And as much as I feared 5 kids in an emergency room, it wasn't too bad. It was lucky to have happened on a day when I had planned ahead so I had a bag full of crayons, paper, gameboys, snacks, and drinks.

Today's schedule: absolutely nothing. Rest and no sports is on order for Zach so we're all taking it easy. Now if only I could get the image of my baby boy motionless on the ice out of my head.

Today is brag about Greg day.

Greg's back in school! (Kelly and I feel so left out.)

Back in June Greg decided he was ready to get his MBA. Of course after all the deadlines and FAFSA's and so on were due. He found a program he liked but there was a waiting list. So he drove down to apply anyways and talked to people at the university and they were willing to work around everything. Step one he needed to take the GMAT. So he studied and took the test in July. He aced the verbal with like 93%. But the math... Let's just say it was really bad and the two scores together were a bit above 110%. But no problem, he talked to the university again and they were okay with it.

Did I mention he also never received his bachelor's degree?

See this is where Greg amazes me. He can sell a drowning man water. How in the world he can get himself into a top rated MBA program with no bachelor's, past the deadlines, with waiting list, and a crappy math GMAT score is beyond me. But he figures out a way and does it and I'm so proud of him, there aren't even words for it.

He's at his first "Immersion Weekend" right now and in another week has his first "Immersion Week." These "Immersion Weeks" are in cool places like Europe, Asia, and South America (the first one is in Washington DC). I'm telling you, I don't know how Greg does it...

So if you could take a minute and congratulate Greg, I'm so thrilled for him. Lately I've been joking that I'm along for the ride to see what crazy thing he's going to do next. Save June 13 2009 for a huge graduation party!

Just don't mention Tar Heels or Powder Blue. He kinda forgot to look into school mascots and colors before applying. *winks*

Happy Rosh Hashanah! Happy Ramadan!

See I'm all hip with other religions' holy days because my kids are off school today. Yay... And other religions really like the letter A.

It also fits it well with the fact our local school district doesn't seem to like 5 day work weeks. Which is why the kids end up going until the middle of June. Although I'm not sure I'm really complaining on that point.

In other news, I'm feeling slightly better. Um, there was something else but I just sneezed and forgot. So have a nice Thursday and it's only 23 more hours until the kids are back in school!

Someone gave me a head cold. This always happens this time of the year when the kids go back to the germ factory school. Thankfully other than Kelly having a bit of a fever on Sunday (and sleeping but there's never anything wrong with a sleeping child in my book), the kids are healthy. But not me. I am sick. Hopefully it clears by Saturday because we have a very busy weekend ahead of us. More details later when I'm not so filled with snot and fighting the urge to lay my head down on my desk and sleep.

Happy Birthday Kyle!

The big 6! (And all he wants for Christmas is his two front teeth.)

He opened one gift this morning, a skateboard from his Grandma and Grandpa Fleck.

I'm not sure when he'll open his other gifts or eat cake because our schedule is booked from after school until about 8pm tonight. Um, lots of sugar right before 8:30 bedtime? Oh well, it is his birthday. (His kindergarten teacher will kill me on Wednesday.)

Previous 9/11 birthdays: 5th birthday, 4th birthday, and 3rd birthday.

So we're all bee-bopping along here. I'm really trying to think of something more to say than we're really really busy. It's just all the "Back To" stuff. (And an attack of the "reallys".) Tonight and tomorrow night I have school stuff, Wednesday and Thursday, Girl Scouts. Along with the regular soccer and hockey practices. I have about a dozen emails to send, half a dozen phone calls (although I've already completed 2) and nine stops on my errand list. And while it doesn't all have to be done today, I'd rather have one really crazy day now than dribble it over two or three days. Plus I'm sure there will be more craziness added as the week goes on. And let's not even talk about the amount of sewing I should be doing: 3 scrub shirts, 7 tote bags, 3 jean skirts, 1 quilt, 1 hockey garment bag, 1 princess dress, 1 sofa slipcover, and about a dozen random BKD items. Thank goodness Halloween is still more than a month away. (And the Renaissance costumes? Um...) See I'm even too busy to break this post up into paragraphs! Stay cool and I'll catch you on the flip side.

As a mom of 5, at some point you'd figure I've seen it all.

Like the Post It Note wall.

Or Blue Kelly.

Don't forget the haircut.

Last night I went upstairs to tuck Kelly into bed and saw this over her bed:

She sticks her small stuffed animals and other little toys in them.

A piece of printer paper and a ton of tape.

This morning she was making more:

I asked her how she learned to make them. She said she made it up and shrugged. I'm kinda sorta impressed.

Although I'm thinking maybe I should make a trip to IKEA and buy her this. Cause Scotch tape doesn't grow on trees...

Today is my best friend's 30th birthday! It's so nice of her to be older than me huh? Go wish Steph a happy birthday and tell her to spring for cable. *winks*

The water heater is busted, Greg's Jeep is in the shop, and I'm behind in about every area of life except the laundry. (Funny, huh?)

More? Kyle seems to be on two soccer teams even though I only signed him up for one, Zach has to wear a dress shirt and tie to hockey games (I'm assuming slacks too), and Ally smacked her head on the concrete on the way into school this morning (she's okay).

We have a Boy Scout den meeting at our house tomorrow night and dinner guests Saturday night. The other 3rd grade Brownie troop dissolved so I'm picking up an extra 4 girls on top of the 12 I already have. Plus GS cookies go on sale here next Friday and I'm still the cookie mom.

It's a good busy though and it's very helpful I have a few hours during the day with just Kelly. Although I seem to spending most of that time boiling water and chauffeuring Greg around.

This morning I helped an elderly lady pump her gas for her very first time. Her husband always did it for her and he recently died. How sad is that?

Course if Greg ever dies, one of the kitchen light bulbs in this house will never ever be changed again because I can't figure out the darn fixture.
