Week 10, Aug 14-18
Mystery Clue Day: I don't suggest going all "Murder Mystery Dinner" with the kids but a little "Miss Scarlet in the Kitchen with the Revolver" can be fun. Either whip out the Classic Clue board game (they do have a Junior edition too, "Who Ate the Milk and Cookies?") or create your own. Leave clues around the house with riddles to solve, all leading up to a nice surprise (a toy, movie tickets, the announcement of a play date or relative visiting). Elementary, My Dear Watson...
Open an IHOP (International House of Pancakes): Let's play with our food! Make the all time favorite "Chocolate Chip Smiley Face" pancakes at home: add chocolate chips, a cherry nose, and whipped cream hair to large pancakes for your own funny faces. My mother-in-law also likes to provide the kids with sprinkles for the ultimate sugar rush. I think I'll stick to maple syrup and butter on mine though.
Put on a Puppet Show: Dig out those old hand puppets and make a simple stage, behind the sofa or clothed table. If you don't have puppets, decorate plain brown bags or just doodle faces on the kids' fingertips. Let the kids' act out nursery rhymes or make up their own story. Bravo!
Make a Drink: With all the fruit blended drinks out there on the market, wouldn't it be fun to create your own? Buy several types of juices, a fizzy soda pop like 7-Up or Sprite, lots of plastic cups, and garnishes (cherries, lemons, etc). You have my permission to add a little alcohol to your own "Orange/Grape/Apple/Sprite with a Lemon" concoction after cleaning up the kids' mess. hehe
"What I Did This Summer": As summer sadly comes to a close, it's time to remember what fun we had! Gather up the pictures, write down the stories, run through the sprinkler one last time. Ask the kids what their favorite part of the summer was. If possible, do it again today! Many of the items on the "50 Days of Summer" list can be done any season or as a great rainy day indoor activity. If you didn't get to something this year, don't worry, there's always next summer!

I'm one of those people who always says "it would be awesome if we did this" or "we should totally do that!" and then when it comes to the actual doing, nothing ever happens. But this year will be different! I have a list! more info...
