Week 4, July 3-7

Oreo Pudding Pops: Perfect for the 4th of July! Let the kids crush the cookies (the recipe only calls for 6 so it's no big deal if they eat a few) and stir everything together. The pops take about 5 hours to set so plan accordingly.

2 cups cold milk
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package vanilla flavor instant pudding
1/2 cup thawed Cool Whip
6 Oreo cookies, crushed
6 (5 ounce) paper cups or plastic cups
6 wooden popsicle sticks or plastic spoons

Pour milk into medium bowl, add pudding mix and beat with wire whisk 2 minutes. Gently stir in whipped topping and crushed cookies. Spoon into cups & insert pop stick into each for handle. Freeze 5 hours or until firm.

4th of July! Let's celebrate our country's independence! Wear red, white, and blue and attend a fireworks show. For those not in the US, you can learn about the history of fireworks instead here.

Nature Art: My kids love to do leaf rubbings: find a leaf with interesting edges or a strong veins, set on a hard surface and cover with a sheet of paper. Using a crayon or pencil, "rub" over the leaf until the leaf shape appears. You can also press flowers to laminate into bookmarks, collect small twigs to glue onto paper in a design. And nothing says "art" like a pine cone covered in glitter. Here's a list of several more ideas.

Indoor Scavenger Hunt: (aka "I lost some stuff and I want the kids to find it for me") Your list can be more specific for your house but this one is a good starting point. Now where did I leave that flashlight?

Visit a local museum: There's this train museum nearby (the B&O line which stands for Baltimore and Ohio, who knew they'd put a museum for it in Baltimore...) that I've been wanting to visit since we moved here. Check your phone book, local tourist guidebook, or ask a neighbor for suggestions of a cool museum you may not have been to. Some museums offer special programs for children (especially art museums), call ahead and see if they offer anything like that. I'm so buying one of those annoying train whistles in the gift shop. *winks*

I'm one of those people who always says "it would be awesome if we did this" or "we should totally do that!" and then when it comes to the actual doing, nothing ever happens. But this year will be different! I have a list! more info...
