Make Play-Doh and Goop: Let's make a mess! hehe Here are some recipes for homemade play-doh. Goop is also fun to make as long as you keep it contained, my favorite recipe uses borax and glue as found here.
Take a Picture Day: If you have responsible children, let them borrow your camera and take pictures of whatever they want all day long. Or if you have children like mine, buy them each one-use cameras. Course I'm not looking forward to their whining after they use up their 27 shots in 5 minutes. But first check out this article on goof-proof photos with them before handing over a camera. Say "Cheese!"
Learn a New Language! Okay I don't expect you to master all the tenses of Latin verbs in one day but it's fun to learn a few words in another language. Think Dora the Explorer without all the singing. Here's a great site to get you started: Jennifer's Language Page. Parlez-vous anglais?
Visit a Farmer's Market: Mmm, fresh veggies and fruit! You may already buy all your produce at a market like this but today let your children pick out something for themselves. They may go with an old standby like apples or find something different and exciting like quince. I think my kids will be shocked to learn that green beans don't grow in cans.
Classical Music: Let's turn off Hillary Duff and The Wiggles to listen to some oldies. You may be surprised how much your children enjoy the change of pace. My kids really love the music from the Nutcracker Suite after they got over the fact "there isn't any words." Here's a good starter CD or download the songs listed to give your kids a taste of the classics: Classics Greatest Hits

I'm one of those people who always says "it would be awesome if we did this" or "we should totally do that!" and then when it comes to the actual doing, nothing ever happens. But this year will be different! I have a list! more info...
