Halloween through the Years
Halloween is my favorite holiday because I can let my crafty side go wild! The kids decide on their costumes at the beginning of October and I spend the rest of the month sewing and shopping and making their costumes the best I know how. Many of the costumes below are altered sewing patterns, if there's a particular one you'd like to copy, email me and I'll help you as much as I can. Greg even gets into the act as he always does the kids' make-up (and much better than I would, I might add). I'm already looking forward to next Halloween!
1997 Zach's first Halloween! Here he's a Pea in the Pod, the costume was made by his Great Grandma Fleck. He was only 3 months old so no candy for him! (more for Mom and Dad, hehe)
1998 Unfortunately we didn't celebrate Halloween this year. Zach was originally going to be a cracked egg (another costume by Great Grandma Fleck) but a few days before Halloween while I was pregnant with the twins, I had kidney stones and preterm labor at 26 weeks. So I spent several days in the hospital and we skipped trick or treating.
1999 Emily (on right) and Ally's first Halloween! They were adorable little bunnies (I hand sewed ears and a poofy white tail on pink sweatsuits) while Zach was Pikachu. The yellow jumpsuit was originally a Teletubby costume that I adapted into the Pokemon with Pikachu's signature ears and tail.
2000 Our first themed year, a shepherd and his sheep. I sewed Zach's robe and bought a cane at the local Quality Farm and Fleet (gotta love farm country). The twin's costumes were sweatsuits with hundreds of little balls of batting hand sewed on. (Ally on the right) Our dog Ranger (not pictured) pretended to be a wolf for the evening.
2001 Another themed year and Kyle's first Halloween. We had a Medieval Court with Zach as our knight (that's our family crests on his shield, painted by Uncle Patrick), Emily (in purple) and Ally as princesses, and Kyle as the court jester.
2002 This year the kids chose traditional Halloween characters. Ally was a ghost, Emily a witch, Zach was Frankenstein's monster, and Kyle was a scarecrow minus the straw.
2003 A no theme year and Kelly's first Halloween! From left to right, Kyle as a devil, Zach as Harry Potter, Kelly was a teddy bear, Emily was the Tooth Fairy, and Ally as an angel.
2004 Peter Pan and the Gang! Kelly was our crocodile, Zach as Captain Hook, Kyle was Peter Pan (and often tried to fly...), Ally was Wendy, and Emily as Tinkerbelle. Kyle's costume even won a prize at the local Halloween carnival (hehe).
2005 Another no theme year (I try "themes" every other year). Emily as Minnie Mouse, Kyle as Stitch, Kelly was a bunny, Ally as Ariel the Little Mermaid, and Zach was a vampire.
2006
In a galaxy far, far away... Star Wars! Emily as Padme, Ally as Queen Amidala, Kelly as an Ewok, Kyle as Yoda, Zach as Darth Vader.
